melasma problem..can it go away naturally??

I just delivered a baby over a month ago..saw a weird brown pigmentation on my shoulders..i went to see a dermatologist and was diagnosed with "melasma". The doctor said this could be treated by laser but is it safe to do it after 1 month of delivering a baby?? Has anyone been through similiar experience??
